Indonesia’s film industry has no shortage of women with big careers and names. Some of them are famous directors, screenwriters, or actresses. This fact gives rise to assumptions and claims that the representation of women in Indonesian cinema is more than enough. Unfortunately, this statement is not supported by sufficient statistical data and follow-up actions to create an equal and inclusive cinema.
The Indonesian Film Scholars Association (KAFEIN) conducts the collection and analysis of gender-disaggregated data in the Indonesian film industry. This research aims to initiate a policy discussion on the status of gender balance in the Indonesian film industry. The book consists of two parts, the first part contains an analysis of gender-disaggregated data detailing women’s involvement in the film industry. The second part of the book contains a number of action plan recommendations to follow up the data analysis in the first section. At the end, the book is complemented by the analysis and identification of 20 stakeholders and their influence in creating an equal and inclusive Indonesian cinema.
