KAFEIN stands for Pengkaji Film Indonesia or Indonesian Film Scholars, is a professional association of researchers and academics who are focused on film and cinema issues.
Founded in early 2017, KAFEIN aims to facilitate the need to build network, to exchange knowledge and resources, to facilitate research and publication, along with the increasing need to understand Indonesian films and cinema. Interdisciplinary in nature, its members come from various institutions, universities and academic backgrounds; from film and television, literature, art, business, communication, history, philosophy, education, politics, public administration, sociology and anthropology. KAFEIN holds a biennial academic conference related to film and cinema; the first was held in August 2017 at the Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta and the second was held in August 2019 at the Surakarta Institute of Indonesian Art. KAFEIN is currently in the process of publishing their own academic journals.
