The Economic Impact of the Film Industry on the Music Industry and the Challenges of the Digital Era
Abstrak
This paper attempts to understand the economic impact of the film industry on the music industry, especially in the digital era. The connection between the high ticket sales for a film and the high sales of its soundtrack album in the past shows that there is a potential link between the two industries. However, in the digital era which has changed the ways in which film and music products are consumed, the data is not available. This paper also explores the problems that arise in collaboration between film and music, and tries to offer solutions for policy makers. To do this, this paper examines data on successful films and successful sales of film music, and examines new ways of consuming music and their relationship to sales success of film scores. Data regarding problems in collaboration were obtained through interviews with professionals involved in this. Data about larger situations were obtained from observing available data and interviews with policy makers.
