Abstract

In 2018, Indonesian men's clothing trend was marked by the Black Panther-style baju koko, a type of Muslim garment inspired by the costume of T'Challa, the King of Wakanda, in Black Panther (2018). This paper provides a heuristic analysis that links two creative sub-sectors in Indonesia and explores possible explanations on how some films triggered a surge in fashion sales, while others did not. Departing from a review of conceptual issues and cases, this paper tries to see the possibility of collaboration between creative business actors from different sub-sectors so that the goal of making films as the locomotive of the creative industry in Indonesia can be achieved.
